So many of our patients have amazing stories about how chiropractic has helped improve their lives. It’s my job to capture their stories and share them with you in hopes to help improve the lives of others who may not know the benefits of chiropractic. It got me thinking, I’m not sure how many of you have heard my story. So I wanted to share it with you.
I began working for Drs. Bryan and Stacy Wills on September 12, 2005. It’s kind of a funny story actually because I wasn’t looking for a job, the job found me. I am forever thankful for the events that have transpired in my life because it led me to where I am today. Knowing what I know now about Chiropractic I can honestly say it has positively changed my life and those around me in more ways than one. Let me tell you my story.
When I was 17 years old I was in a horrific car accident – One that left me with multiple injuries that I still cope with to this day. The details of the accident are not as important as how my life drastically changed afterwards. My injuries consisted of a shattered right elbow that left me incapable of using my right arm for months. This was life altering for me because not only was I right handed, but I was artistically talented and planned a future pursuing an art career. I was devastated and my art teacher knew it. He began nudging me in the direction of art therapy. My entire senior year of high school was spent at physical therapies and doctor appointments. My long list of injuries in addition to my elbow included: hyper-extended left ankle, broken collar bones, fractured skull, punctured lung, and broken nose. My focus changed from getting into Chicago Institute of Art to rehabilitation. After months of physical therapy, I went to college at Eastern Illinois University instead.
It was in college that I worked with other kids, helping them in the same way that art therapy helped me. I worked for Sarah Bush Hospital in a program traveling to the local schools using art as a constructive outlet for kids. It was here that I developed a passion for helping people. It was then that my career in health education with an art therapy emphasis unfolded.
I also met my husband, Danny, while attending college. I graduated a year prior to him, so I moved back in with my parents while I planned a wedding and waited for my fiancé to graduate so we could start our lives together. It was this step that led me back to Rochelle. I worked for the Focus House and during my time there I was guided into meeting Drs. Bryan and Stacy Wills. I knew nothing about chiropractic, but they offered me a job and I could tell they shared the same passion for helping people as I did.
One of the greatest benefits of working at Wills Chiropractic is the chiropractic care that is provided. Due to my car accident, I was dealing with daily pain and numbness, but just endured it because I assumed that would be the life I would lead because medical doctors helped me as best they could. Believe me, they did a fantastic job. There is no way I would have the mobility in my right arm that I do now if not for my surgeon and physical therapist.
I began chiropractic care and the doctors began educating me about chiropractic. Weekly adjustments relieve my arm from the pain and numbness that travels from my shoulder to my fingers. – Adjustments allow my body to heal itself – I have worked for Drs. Bryan and Stacy Wills for eight years now and I have missed less than 5 days of work due to sickness! (You can even ask my boss!) My menstrual cramps were atrocious prior to chiropractic care and wouldn’t you believe they improved too? I received chiropractic care throughout my entire pregnancy this past year too and my body was able to function at 100%! Again, my life had drastically changed. I am a strong believer that everything in life happens for a reason. If not for my accident, I wouldn’t have attended Eastern Illinois University and discovered my passion for helping people. If I hadn’t attended Eastern, I wouldn’t have met my husband and I certainly wouldn’t have had my beautiful baby girl. If I hadn’t met my husband, it’s very likely I would have ended up in Chicago, not Rochelle, therefore never meeting Drs. Bryan and Stacy Wills. If I never would have met the doctors, I would still know nothing about the benefits of chiropractic. Chiropractic has given me optimal health and I didn’t want to keep it a secret. So because I have had such great results, I wanted to share with everyone, including my family.
My sister, Dana, was the first after me to begin care. After my parents saw the amazing results I was receiving they didn’t question me when I encouraged them to have the Doctors help her. Dana is an amazing swimmer, but years of swimming were damaging to her shoulders. She couldn’t even lift her right shoulder above her head! She was also a dancer and her hip really bothered her as well. Adjustments have overall improved the health of my sister and I’m so thankful that she can pursue her hobbies pain free.
Chiropractic spread like wildfire in my family. My mom (Debbie Howard), my dad (Kevin Howard) and my grandma (Audrey Summers) are all regularly adjusted. They each have their own amazing chiropractic story so please stay tuned to hear theirs too! My husband and my daughter also get adjusted. My husband, Danny used to walk pigeon-toed before chiropractic, but not anymore!! Why wouldn’t I share this amazing ability for the body to heal itself with my newborn daughter? Grace was adjusted when she was only a couple days old and continues with weekly adjustments! Birth is one of the most traumatic experiences for both baby and mommy.
I hope my story inspires you to learn more about chiropractic. My family has chosen to live a healthy lifestyle and will continue to get adjustments on a routine basis – why wouldn’t we?
I love hearing how chiropractic has helped others so please share your story with me. If your story could help just one person – wouldn’t it be worth it?
