Our bodies suffer from sitting in a car for long periods. We need to get up and move around to maintain our health and well-being. Unfortunately, sitting for hours at a time causes pain and aches. Luckily, you can do a few things while driving that will make driving more enjoyable. Here's how to stretch your back and body with stretches that will alleviate your pain.
Stretches While You're Driving
You can relax your body by doing a variety of stretches. During your trip, you can do a few stretches that will help you. Stretches like these are meant to relieve stress on muscles and joints that are usually static when we drive. So, check out how you can stretch your back and body while driving:
CHIN PUSH AND TUCK
This exercise is helpful for improving posture and aligning the cervical spine. Poor posture and hunching over from driving can result in the neck rounding forward and the spine becoming misaligned. Put your chin forward as if you were trying to push a button with your chin. Then, move your chin, neck, and head as far back as possible. Repeat as many times as necessary.
ROLLS
These are a favorite of many people. During these exercises, isolated joints are moved to loosen tendons that become static while you are driving. When you feel tight or achy, try these movements while driving down the highway. Most parts of your body can benefit from a little extra movement. It's a simple movement; all you do is roll what feels stiff. You could start by rolling your wrists and ankles, shoulders, and neck.
FLEX & POINT
It is possible to stretch the calves and hamstrings one leg at a time while seated in the car. Your lower body will benefit from this as it will be strengthened and lengthened. Point the toes with one leg elevated a few inches off the ground. Then lower the leg down and flex the foot. Repeat as necessary while moving swiftly through the exercise.
