Happy New Year! Most of us are very excited that 2020 has come to an end and find ourselves hopeful for the year to come. Like many, you’ve probably set resolutions and goals for the year to come, but have you set them in a way that makes them achievable?
Statistics show that on average 80% of people don’t accomplish their resolutions and most give up by January 12th. With that in mind, we are here to help you set up your goals in a way to help you reach them a little easier.
SMART
The SMART method is effective to help clearly define your goals.
Specific - get very specific with what you want. If you want to lose weight, don’t just plan to lose weight, plan how much you want to lose.
Measurable - create measurable steps between where you are and the end goal you want to reach. Long term goals can seem daunting without measurable steps in between to show you’re making progress
Attainable - we often make these large goals that may seem hard to reach, identify small goals to help get you to your larger goals. If you want to start a business but that seems impossible, start to figure out what steps you need to get there and tackle the small goals until that “impossible” goal no longer seems impossible.
Relevant - make sure your goals are relevant to where you are currently and lead you to where you would like to go. Having too many scattered goals can cause distraction and ultimately failure to reach your bigger goals.
Time Specific - when you set a goal, have a deadline in mind for each of the steps to help measure them. Don’t set a goal without a time in mind or like most thing, that goal will be pushed aside and never accomplished.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Many people find that having someone to keep them accountable on their resolution journey is helpful. Have someone who is working toward the same goals keep you going, or designate someone you can check in with to help you get to where you want to go.
