Summer is the season to get outside. It’s the perfect time to catch some vitamin D and start new and exciting healthy lifestyles that were put off in the spring. If you’ve ever done summer outdoor activities, you’d know two things: (1) it’s hot, and (2) you should have started it sooner. Many people regret not starting new activities sooner for a variety of reasons, the most common that we see is that sometimes these new outdoor activities can create bodily pains.
Common Pains from Outdoor Activities
Two of the most common pains that occur from outside are leg cramps and lower back issues. Chiropractic treatment can significantly help prevent leg cramps before they happen. They tend to happen because a nerve has been pinched somewhere in your lower spine, so coming to see us before you start your summer activities gives you the greatest chance to prevent leg cramps by letting us relieve pressure before it becomes an issue. Lower back pain also tends to happen because of your spine, but that dull ache comes from a few places. Usually, a nerve is being compressed and that is what flags the ache, but sometimes it comes from a buildup of toxins along your spine. Regular chiropractic care helps to release those toxins and relieve your lower back pain.
Exercises at Home to Prevent Pain
There are two exercises you can do at home which will help relieve your tension until you can come in to see us. The first is standing twists, and the second is kneeling. To do standing twists, stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and cross your arms over your chest. Then slowly twist your body in one direction, making sure not to strain your neck in the process. Then, while in a kneeling position on the ground, stretch your hands forward on the ground until your chest is as low to the ground as possible. Both of these exercises are extremely beneficial for your blood flow and in reducing lactic acids in your back and knees.
