Thanksgiving has come and gone and the holiday season is officially here! This time of year is filled with friends, family, fun, and celebration but it also sometimes comes with a few unwelcome guests – stress, sickness, and overeating. Here are our tips to help you have a healthy holiday season.
KEEP YOUR THIRST QUENCHED
Proper hydration is important no matter what time of year, but the busy holiday season can leave you distracted, forgetful, and sometimes dehydrated. Although it can be easy to forget to drink water, it’s important to stay hydrated as water helps flush out toxins in the body, improves digestion, helps with getting good sleep, and more. Carry a reusable water bottle with you wherever you go so you can do good for your body and for the environment this holiday season.
BE MINDFUL OF MODERATION
We are the last people to tell you not to enjoy yourself during the holidays, but try not to overdo it – your health (and waistline) will thank you! Enjoy that glass of eggnog or slice of pie, but avoid going straight for the unhealthy choices. Enjoy balanced, healthy meals along with a few indulgences and you’ll keep yourself from feeling unwell later.
WASH THOSE HANDS
This time of year is often regarded as “flu season” and we are typically more vulnerable to illness when we are dehydrated, are getting less sun (Vitamin D), are sleep deprived, or aren’t washing our hands enough. The buzz of the holiday season takes a toll on our bodies and exposure to more people and more germs can increase your risk of getting sick. Wash your hands frequently to prevent illness and stay healthy during the holidays.
REST UP
There’s decorations to put up, parties to throw, and presents to buy – the holidays can be overwhelming! You might think putting off sleep to accomplish more will benefit you, but sleep deprivation is detrimental to your health and wellness. Your body needs restful sleep to recuperate and repair. Make sleep a priority and power down your phone, turn off the TV, curl up in bed, and get 7-8 hours of rest.
COME TO WILLS CHIROPRACTIC
The benefits of regular chiropractic adjustments are plenty!
