This weekend, we all get a fresh start. When the ball drops at midnight, 2022 gives way to 2023, and you’ll no doubt spend that time in the company of people you love and admire. If your New Year’s resolution is to adapt better eating habits, why not start a bit early with some healthy New Year’s Eve snacks?

Healthy New Year’s Eve Snack Ideas

CAULIFLOWER BUFFALO BITES

Chicken wings are a staple of year-end/year-beginning festivities, but the fact that they’re fried doesn’t make them particularly health-savvy. A great way to get your kicks without all the calories is to make buffalo bites with cauliflower. They’re very simple to make—just cut a head of cauliflower into small florets, toss with seasoning and a low-fat buffalo sauce or hot sauce equivalent, and bake. The resulting New Year’s Eve snack is lower in calories and carbohydrates but still big on flavor.

SHRIMP COCKTAIL

If you’ve got the stomach for sea food, shrimp is a great choice for a snack. Shrimp is a great source of protein—not to mention antioxidants and vitamin B12. While cocktail sauce is a great traditional pairing, store-bought sauce tends to be higher in sugar and carbs. You can get creative with a zero-sugar or keto-friendly recipe and make your own, or you can take a unique approach to shrimp cocktail with a low-calorie salsa or homemade pico de gallo.

CHAMPAGNE

Ah, what would NYE be without a glass (or two) of bubbly? It might surprise you to learn that Champagne actually has some impressive health benefits. It’s lower in calories than other alcoholic drinks and spirits, and it’s been found to contain heart-healthy antioxidants. Some studies even suggest that Champagne (or sparkling wine if it doesn’t come from the region in France) can help improve memory, mood, and brain function. So sip that sparkling with gusto—just be sure to enjoy responsibly.
